    e-mail plugin?

Am I just dense, or is this not documented at all in 7.0.8? axistvuser has an email account, I've enabled the settings, but now I can't find any information on what I have to do to create messages via email. We have a campus information message that comes out every day via email, and it would be really easy to parse that into an AxisTV slide, but I am not sure how to go about doing it...

    Re: e-mail plugin?

    Dear David,

Thank you for your question, and no, you are not dense! It's a good question and I hope the following instructions and attached image help demonstrate the email bulletin tool. This feature allows AxisTV users to submit bulletins directly from their e-mail application. The email generates a "Text Bulletin with Title". The "subject line" of the email becomes the "title" and the body of the email becomes the "Text" (or body text). The email bulletin can be located in the Now Playing | Playlists menu under the user's default playlist (which is decided by an AxisTV administrator when they add a new user account).

All email bulletin submissions must be approved by an AxisTV user with administrative or content approver privileges. If a user has Content Approver or Administrator rights, and submits a bulletin from their email program, the bulletin still must be approved by that user or another user with approval capabilities in the AxisTV web interface before it can be viewed on your displays. This is simply a security feature to ensure that no unwanted content submitted via email automatically shows up on your displays.

Step 1:  Activate and Configure Settings

In the AxisTV navigation menu, go to Configure | Content Settings | E-mail Plugin.

    • Activate the E-mail plug-in by selecting "Activate" in the drop-down menu.
    • In order to send e-mail to AxisTV, a network or e-mail administrator must create an e-mail account for AxisTV on an e-mail server that offers POP3 protocol for accessing e-mail messages. Once this account is setup, you may configure AxisTV to pull e-mail messages from the account automatically.
    • Enter the number of minutes to wait between polling for incoming e-mail messages (for example: every 10 minutes).
    • Configure the remaining attributes of the E-Mail Plugin, based on your preferences, such as the default font for the Title and Body Text for the bulletin. The default play times and backgrounds serve as default values for users that you add to the system.
    • Once all values have been entered, be sure to click "Save Plugin Settings"

    Step 2: User Settings

Once the plugin has been configured, be sure that any individual user accounts are configured for e-mail submission.  The user must have the Create Bulletin privilege (the user must be able to create bulletins through the AxisTV menu - see Security | Roles) and AxisTV needs to know what the user's e-mail address is to validate incoming e-mail. This step is achieved by going to Configure | Security | Users. The E-Mail Address must be unique and must be used as the From Address on all e-mails from the user.

    Note:

When you create an email bulletin, be sure to remove any auto-signatures, graphics or images from your email before you send the message to AxisTV. Otherwise, you will need to edit your bulletin content prior to approving it.

    Best wishes,

    Ellyce

    Re: e-mail plugin?

    Thanks; that works.

It turns out, by the way, that this is NOT documented in the Comprehensive Manual, but it IS documented in the on-line documentation.
